The main prerequisite to be qualified for this list is that the product must be an office suite. To be defined as an office suite, at a minimum, it must include both a word processor and a spreadsheet.
The next prerequisite is that it must be freeware or open source. A software is considered to be freeware if it has been made available for mass distribution with its basic functions not being time-limited or signficantly crippled, without requiring any payment.
This includes software that can be downloaded off the Internet and software that have been given away on magazine cover discs. Only the versions of the software that have been defined as freeware will be qualified.
1 Microsoft Office Starter 2010
In 2009, Microsoft introduced the replacement for Microsoft Works, Microsoft Office Starter 2010, a simplified, ad-funded version of Microsoft Office 2010 that came pre-loaded and ready to use on new computers.
